Thai government urged to help low-income earners

BANGKOK, April 23 (TNA) - The Thai Chamber of Commerce has urged the government to help people whose income is lower than 20,000 baht a month, as the costs of living are soaring.

Chatchai Boonrat, deputy chair of the Thai Chamber of Commerce's board, said that food prices on the domestic market have been rising due to increases in global demand and declining raw materials for food products, especially agricultural products, which should be benefiting Thailand, as a world major food exporter.

Chatchai acknowledged, however, that the rising prices of many agricultural products are raising the costs of living in Thailand, calling on the government to help people whose income is lower than 20,000 baht a month, as they are heavily affected by the higher consumer products prices.

Chatchai proposed that the Thai government offer help quickly and only to those who are really in troubles based on official data on low-income earners, and that the administration prevent hoards for profiteering by local traders. (TNA)
