Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to Rajin Shipyard

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, provided field guidance to the Rajin Shipyard.
After being briefed on the shipyard before a huge map showing its panoramic view, he went round different processes to learn in detail about shipbuilding.
It is of very weighty importance for our country surrounded by seas on its three sides to massively build various type fishing boats as well as large cargo ships for developing the fishing industry, marine transport and foreign trade, he said, underlining the need for the shipyard to continue waging a dynamic struggle to build more cargo ships.
He said that shipbuilding is an important index showing the country's level of industrial development, underlining the need for the shipyard to further develop shipbuilding technology and cut down the time for shipbuilding and steadily improve their quality by putting the processes on a scientific and modern basis.
He called for actively introducing the latest science and technology and waging a dynamic mass technical innovation movement to comprehensively apply computer-aided designing of ships and CNC technology to hull processing and assembling.
