Thai government hands financial assistance to villagers affected by border clashes
SI SA KET, April 23 (TNA) - Local villagers--who were affected by border clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops in February this year--have received financial assistance from provincial authorities.
Somsak Suwansujarit, Governor of Thailand's northeastern Si Sa Ket Province, handed a total of one million baht financial support to 242 people in six border Thai villages in Kantaralak District. The provincial governor also gave 260 sacks of rice for each of the affected villagers.
The deadly four-day clashes in early February in an unsettled border area near a historic Hindu temple, Preah Vihear, claimed about 10 lives, including civilians on both sides. (TNA)
