Moscow to have light rail, upgrade streetcar lines

MOSCOW, April 23 (Itar-Tass) -- Light rail lines will appear all over
Moscow soon, but the city authorities are not going to abandon the usual
rail electric transport, either.
As the head of the Moscow department of economic policy and
development, Marina Ogloblina, said in an on-line conference, "the
government of Moscow has decided to develop the metropolitan streetcar
service as an eco-friendly, fast, affordable and convenient form of
transport in the coming years in several ways."
Ogloblina said this favorite form of public transport will get new
rolling stock and infrastructures.
"Also there will be special arrangements for dedicated public
transport lanes," Ogloblina said.
In addition, "one of the important directions in the coming years will
be the development and implementation of light rail transport."
