Thai border hospitals to monitor latest clash with Cambodia

SURIN, April 22 (TNA) - Hospitals along the Thai-Cambodian border have been put on alert after gunfire erupted early Friday morning between soldiers on both sides, killing at least one on the Thai side and injuring several other soldiers.

Thai Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit quoted the latest casualties as of 10.30am local time Friday, confirming an undisclosed death and a total of 13 wounded Thai soldiers, 10 of which have been admitted to nearby Phnom Dongrak Hospital, with two suffering serious injuries.

In the meantime, Jurin said local health authorities have been urged to coordinate with at least four hospitals in the volatile area, providing referral services and care for those taking refuge.

At least 3,000 people on the Thai side have already fled to shelters from the morning crossfire, under the designation of provincial authorities. Mobile medical teams and volunteers have also been mobilised to provide physical treatment and counselling. (TNA)
