Gaddafi bombs oil fields, Obama okays use of drones
LONDON, April 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Forces of Libyan leader Muammar
Gaddafi attacked a rebel-controlled oil pumping station in eastern Libya,
Reuters reported on Thursday quoting officials of the Arabian Gulf Oil
Company (Agoco), whose oilfields the rebels control.
Eight people were reportedly killed in the attack which was likely
launched to impede oil exports resumption from the rebel-controlled Sarir
and Messla oil fields.
Abdeljalil Mayouf, information manager of Agoco, told the news agency
Gaddafi's forces attacked the pumping station between the Sarir oilfield
and a port in Tobruk on the Mediterranean.
In the meantime, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said in
Washington on Thursday President Barack Obama approved the use of armed
Predator drones in Libya to target Gaddafi's forces.
The unmanned aircraft will allow for more precise attacks, Gates told
a news conference.
