Maliki affirms to Adm. Mullen Iraqi forces capability to safeguard security

Baghdad (NINA) – Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said that Iraq's armed forces are capable of bearing the responsibilities of safeguarding security.

A statement issued on Thursday, Apr. 21, by the Prime Minister's Office said, "Maliki met with the Chairman of the US Joint Chief of Staff, Navy Adm. Michael Mullen, asserting Iraq's keenness to develop its relations with the United States in all fields, especially in arming and training."

The statement quoted Maliki saying, "Iraq's armed forces and security agencies are capable of bearing the responsibilities to safeguard security and work in a professional and patriotic way, and we will continue consolidating their combat capabilities through supplying them with modern weapons."

For his part, Adm. Mullen praised Iraqi armed forces capabilities in safeguarding security and stability, asserting his country's continued support to Iraq in all fields, including arming and training.
