Thai PM expects new government to take office in August

BANGKOK, April 21 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Thursday that he expects the country's new administration will take office in August this year--following the upcoming general election in late June or early July.
The Thai premier insisted that the next national polls will definitely take place although he cannot guarantee it will be a perfect success, noting that any change outside Thailand's parliamentary system appears to be unlikely.
Meanwhile, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who oversees national security, said he does not think the army’s recent show of force will lead to any cancellation of the upcoming general election.
Suthep also acknowledged that the Thai Cabinet's approval on Wednesday of the latest 30-day extension for the imposition of the Internal Security Act in seven districts of Bangkok may not be the last one, saying whether the imposition will continue depends on the latest situation at the time. (TNA)
