CHANGES IN FIREARMS LAW MIGHT BE MADE


Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ A new wording of a law on firearms was backed at the casbinet meeting on Wednesday. As decided, it will be submitted to parliament after the Ministers' opinions have been reflected in it.
The draft initiators want to hold liable those who change the firearms's style or produce them illegally, to prohibit foreigners and people without citizenship from possessing and using the fireamrs, to give a limited and strongly controlled right to use the fireamrs to those who are entitled to run securitry activity and to NGOs who run sports and training activities. The firearms and bullets trade is to belong to the police office only.
In view of this, a law on excise tax on weapons has been composed as a new wording draft on the firearms. Accordingly, a tax on the firearms, possessed privately and by entities, will go from four thousand togrog to vary between ten thousand and 35 thousand togrog a year.
According to 2010 figures, there were 40 thousand 894 firearms registered. Of them 35 thousand 652 are used for hunting, 1,901 for security activity, 156 for sports and trainings, 280 as exhibits and art pieces, and 59 are kept in private collections.
