Thailand launches new anti-drug strategy

BANGKOK, April 21 (TNA) - Thai Justice Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga said on Thursday that he will present a new national anti-drug structure to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva under which improved strategies against narcotics will be included.
Pirapan acknowledged that the new structure, to be proposed to the Thai premier on Friday, will lay down anti-drug strategies in local communities nationwide; while the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) will cooperate in fighting drug problems in local areas nationwide, demarcated by each of the 88 Thai police stations.
The Thai justice minister said that on 26 April, there will be an ONCB board meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, and 44 anti-drug coalition units will be set up consisting of soldiers, police officers and ONCB officials, noting that each unit will be supervised by two police stations.
