Uzbekistan, China sign over 25 cooperation agreements
TASHKENT, April 21 (Itar-Tass) -- China and Uzbekistan have signed
within the framework of a visit of Uzbek Head of State Islam Karimov to
China more than 25 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental
documents, as well as agreed to implement a number of investment projects
worth over five billion dollars, says an official report of the press
service of the Uzbek president issued by the local press here on Thursday.
The report sums up the results of Islam Karimov's state visit to China.
"Chinese President Hu Jintao expressed gratitude for considerable
expansion of supplies of strategic goods from Uzbekistan for quickly
growing needs of the Chinese economy," the report says. In this context,
the sides "coordinated the prolongation of the period of validity of the
intergovernmental agreement on trade in strategic goods until 2020."
The Chinese leadership noted the importance of the signing during the
visit of the agreement on the construction of the third stage of the gas
pipeline Uzbekistan-China pumping capacity of which will be increased by
25 billion cubic meters a year.
The press service of the Uzbek president specifies that during the
visit the agreements on the implementation of large-scale investment
projects in the chemical industry, the oil and gas, energy and transport
spheres were signed. Besides, agreements on the implementation of joint
investment projects with leading telecommunication companies of China - -
Huawei and ZTE were reached.
The leading Chinese banks confirmed their readiness to finance joint
projects and opened new credit lines for four banks of Uzbekistan to the
sum of 1.5 billion dollars. The National Bank of China and the Central
Bank of Uzbekistan signed currency swap-agreements to the sum of 700
billion yuans (about 106 million dollars) which considerably expands
possibilities of investment and trade cooperation.
One of the most important results of the visit was an agreement on
creating the high level cooperation committee between Uzbekistan and China
which "creates a reliable institutional basis for system development of
relations between the two countries in all aspects of bilateral
interaction," the press service says.
The joint declaration of the Uzbek and Chinese presidents "expresses
satisfaction with constructive interaction within the UN framework and
other leading international political and financial institutions." The
sides confirmed the serious importance attached to the development of the
Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The document fixes that "Uzbekistan
supports the political course of the Chinese leadership, its policy in
issues of single China, as well as the fight against terrorism, extremism
and separatism."
