Chalabi, Rasoul discuss status quo in Kurdistan

Baghdad (NINA) – Head of the Iraqi National Conference INC, Ahmed Chalabi, discussed with Vice-President of Kurdistan and deputy head of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Kosart Rasoul, status quo of Kurdistan and recent developments in Iraq and the region especially the political events in Kurdistan.

A statement issued by INC Wednesday said “Chalabi met with Rasoul and listened to detailed briefing of the protests in Kurdistan cities, their reasons, and solutions.”

“Both sides stressed the necessity of listening to the demands of Iraqis in all its parts and they should be dealt with in a civilized way within the Iraqi constitution which guarantees the right of freedom of expression,” the statement pointed out.

It went on saying that both sides agreed that Iraq preceded the region’s countries in making the democratic change.

“What is needed now is to strengthen democracy in the state’s institutions and not to marginalize or blackball any layer in the Iraqi society,” the statement quoted both officials as saying.
