Demo in Karachi against French Hijab ban
Karachi, April 19, 2011 (PPI): A large number of women staged a protest demo in front of Karachi Press Club here Tuesday against ban on Hijab in France.
The women wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi organized the protest demo attended by women belonging to various walks of life. Sizeable number of female students, working women and housewives participated in the protest.
Women carrying placards and banners chanted slogans against the French government. They said Muslim women consider Hijab as their dignity, respect and protection.
Addressing the protestors, JI Karachi Amir Mohammad Hussain Mehanti said continued aggression against Islam and Muslims by the western countries may lead to a serious clash of civilization.
He said the so-called champions of women rights have kept a mum over ban on Hijab, which is the right of women. He regretted Muslim ladies are being arrested in France, when they exercise their rights of Hijab.
Mehanti demanded lifting ban on wearing Hijab forthwith, saying banning Hijab is against faith of Muslims.
He demanded of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) to take this matter seriously and convey the concerns of Ummah in this regard to the Western countries. United Nations (UN) secures the rights of women in its charter which should be honoured, Mehanti urged.
Deputy Chief JI Karachi Nasrullah Khan Shaji said that rulers of Muslim have bowed down before their Western masters. He demanded action against evil priest Terry Jones who had hurt the sentiments of Muslims by desecrating Holy Quran.
Secretary General JI Karachi Naseem Siddiqui and others also spoke
