Tanker Arsenyev drifts off Kuril isles for engine failure


VLADIVOSTOK, April 20 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian tanker Arsenyev is
drifting off the Kuril islands for failure of the main engine. Crewmembers
are unable to repair it on their own. The high-powered sea-going tugboat
Spravedlivy of the expeditionary party of the Primorrybvod emergency
rescue service has been sent out to help the tanker whicj is drifting in
the area of the Fourth Kuril Strait. The tugboat is to approach the
stricken tanker in the morning of April 21, Anatoly Tsygankov, director
of the expeditionary party, told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
Weather in the area of the incident is calm. There is no risk to the
tanker's crew. The tanker belongs to one of Kamchatka-based shipping
companies. There is no cargo on board. The tanker is about 100 metres long
and has a deadweight of 3,500 tonnes.
