Bail for two red-shirt leaders withdrawn

BANGKOK, April 19 (TNA) - Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has withdrawn the bail it earlier granted to two anti-government red-shirt leaders, Payap Panket and Suporn Atthawong. The move came after they joined public rallies of more than five people, breaching a legal condition of their bail for previous convictions terrorism charges.

DSI Chief Tarit Pengdit on Tuesday instructed Police Lieutenant Colonel Thawil Mangkang, who heads the DSI's first operation unit against terrorism, to inform the two red-clad National United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leaders of the revocation of bail through their lawyers and guarantors in a written document.

The DSI also ordered the two red-shirt leaders to meet investigators on April 25 when they will be sent to public prosecutors for additional terrorism charges. If they fail to report themselves to the DSI authorities, they will have their 600,000-baht bail each and will face arrest warrants.

Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Colonel Pongin Inkhao, who is in charge of an alleged sedition case against 18 leading UDD members, has sought the DSI chief's approval of subpoenas to be sent to the 18 red-clad accused by Tuesday for their further testimony by DSI officers. (TNA)
