Radiation levels at Russian Far East within norm

VLADIVOSTOK, April 19 (Itar-Tass) -- Radiation levels the Sakhalin
region varied between 4 and 16 microroentgens per hour Tuesday morning,
the Sakhalin region department of the Ministry for Emergency Situations
and Civil Defense /EMERCOM/ said.
Observation of the radiation levels in the environment is being done
by 99 stationary and mobile posts of radiation control, including EMERCOM
helicopters and naval frigates.
Radiation also remained within the normal readings in various parts of
the Kuril Islands -- 10 microroentgens in the town of Yuzhno-Kurilsk, 12
microroentgens in the village of Malokurilskoe, 9 microroentgens in the
town of Kurilsk, 8 microroengtens in Yuzho-Sakhalinsk, and 11
microroentgens in the town of Holmsk.
No forecasts for radiation risks were made and EMERCOM said there was
absolutely no danger for the population.
On the Kamchatka Peninsula, the radiation level does not exceed 11
microroentgen per hour, EMERCOM's regional branch said.
Control over radiation readings in the Kamchatka territory has been
stepped up and radiation is gauged every two hours at 73 posts./
Radiation is measured with the aid of EMERCOM's MI-8 helicopters.
Control over all the arriving and outcoming cargoes has been organized
in the seaport and airport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and in the
town
of Yelizovo.
