Nujeifi: postponing the Summit will harm relations with countries asking for postponement

Baghdad (NINA) – Parliament Speaker, Osama Al Nujeifi, said the Arab Summit due to be held in Baghdad is very important and it was approved in accordance to the Arab League’s bylaw.

“Iraq prepared all needs for the Summit, spent great amounts of money, the unstable Arab status caused some complexities,” Nujeifi said in a press conference Monday.

He went on saying “we heard lately that a number of Arab countries demanded elimination or postponement of Baghdad Summit. We contacted Hoshiar Zibari, Iraqi Foreign Minister, and he answered that a conference for Arab Foreign Ministers will be held soon to decide holding the Summit or not.”

Nujeifi stressed that “postponing the Summit will harm Iraq’s relations with the Arab states that asked for that. These countries need to reconsider their stances especially that the Summit is important for all of us.”

“Until now, the Summit is on schedule, we hope that no retreat happens in this regard,” he concluded.
