Iran, Venezuela disapprove of military intervention in Libya

TEHRAN, April 18 (MNA) -- During a telephone conversation on Monday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez expressed their disapproval of the NATO-led military intervention in Libya.

Ahmadinejad stated that the military campaign against Libya, which is backed by the hegemonistic powers, is meant to protect the interests of the United States and its European allies.

Ahmadinejad said the U.S. has devised complicated plots to extend its dominance over the world.

Chavez also criticized certain countries for supporting the military campaign against Libya, saying, “These countries must be aware that if they keep silence in the face of the interventionist actions of the U.S. or support them,” they may face a similar situation in the future, in which they themselves would be attacked by the domineering powers.

At this juncture, international efforts must be made to resolve the crises in the countries which have been hit by unrest, particularly Libya, Chavez added.

He also called on all nations to keep vigilance in the face of the plots devised by the United States.

Ahmadinejad and Chavez also stated that Iran and Venezuela should make joint efforts to promote world peace.
