Medvedev's trip to Hong Kong improves cooperation between sides

HONG KONG, April 17 (Itar-Tass) - President Dmitry Medvedev met Sunday
morning head of the executive authority of the Special Administrative
Region of Xianggang (Hong Kong) of China Donald Tsang. The Russian head of
state left an entry at the book of distinguished guests prior to the start
of the talks, held at the building of the SAR government.
"It's a great honour for me to greet you in Hong Kong. I remember well
our first meeting at the APEC summit in Singapore two years ago. Then you
invited me to come to Moscow, and we had a fruitful discussion," Tsang
said, opening the meeting with the Russian president.
"Relations between Russia and Hong Kong progressed much since our
first talks. Trade between our sides jumped up 63 percent and passenger
turnover by 16 percent over the past year. I'm sure this is just the
beginning. I'd like to express hope that relations between us will deepen
and expand in the sphere of trade, culture and in many other spheres," the
Hong Kong head said.
In turn, the Russian president noted that his trip to Hong Kong
substantially raises the level of relations between the sides. "I'd like
to note that indeed, relations between Hong Kong and Russian regions as
well as between the economies substantially consolidated as a result of
your trip to Moscow ," the president noted.
"You have mentioned several figures, describing parameters of our
cooperation. On the one hand, they are good, but it's too early to keep
calm, the more so, since there are huge prospects for the development of
economic relations and strengthening humanitarian cooperation," Medvedev
claimed. The Russian head of state assured that he and the Russian
delegation are interested that as a result of this trip, cooperation
between Moscow and Hong Kong "would substantially push forward".
Tsang expressed regret that Medvedev had made a sightseeing tour of
Hong Kong late enough. "Earlier it was bright in the city after ten o'
clock in the past, but now we switch off light after ten because of
increased ecological conscience," he noted.
"A worthy example to follow," Medvedev said, adding that it would not
be bad that Russian governors would do the same.
