GA of the Union of European Theatres to be held in St. Petersburg
ST.PETERSBURG (Itar-Tass) - The General Assembly of the
Union of European Theatres will meet behind the closed doors in St.
Petersburg on Sunday. Directors and artistic directors of theatres that
are the Union's members will attend it.
The agenda will include a discussion of creative plans, theatrical
festivals to be organized by the Union, the election of a new president
for a term of two years. The incumbent president, Alexandru Darie, the
director of the Bucharest-based Bulandra Theatre, is finishing his second
term in office. Teatro di Roma is expected to be re-admitted to the Union
this year.
The St. Petersburg Maly Drama Theatre -the Theatre of Europe will be
hosting the Assembly meeting for the first time. It was the first Russian
theatre to be invited to join the Union of European Theatres in 1992.
Lev Dodin, the artistic director of the Maly Drama Theatre- the
Theatre of Europe, is a member of the European theatrical community.
In 2000, Dodin received the European Theatrical Prize. Two years
earlier the General Assembly conferred the honorary status of The Theatre
of Europe on the theatre.
The headquarters of the Union of European Theatres is located in
Nanterre near Paris.
