France extends 2 mln euros in humanitarian aid to Cote d'Ivoire
PARIS, April 16 (Itar-Tass) -- France has extended to Cote d'Ivoire
2.5 million euros worth of humanitarian aid, the French Ministry of
Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
These funds will be disbursed to humanitarian organizations operating
in the country. The money will be used to supply medicines and drinking
water to the population of the republic's largest city, Abidjan. Also,
assistance will be extended to internally displaced persons in Cote
d'Ivoire and the Ivorian refugees accommodated by neighboring Liberia.
The funds will be entered to the accounts of such organizations as the
UN World Food Programme, the International Committee of the Red Cross, as
well as several non-governmental associations. As early as next week a
25-tonne consignment of medicines and medical equipment will be brought to
Abidjan.
The French Foreign Ministry will ensure the delivery to Cote d'Ivoire
of eleven mobile plants to clean drinking water, supplied with portable
water supply systems. France will also delegate specialists to service the
equipment, as well as a group of experts to help local authorities
organize the operation of the urban water supply system in Abidjan.
Several days earlier, the French government issued orders to extend to
Cote d'Ivoire 400 million euros in aid to rebuild the country.
