Value of foreign investment in Thai infrastructure reaches Bt832m in March 2011
BANGKOK, April 15 (TNA) - Department of Business Development Deputy Director-General Kulanee Isadisai, in her capacity as an assistant and secretary to the Thai government's aliens business committee, said that her panel has given a permission for 23 foreigners to operate their businesses in Thailand, with a total capital or 832 million baht as of March 2011 and 445 jobs having been created for Thai workers.
From March 2000, when Thailand's alien businesses act B.E. 2542 first came into effect, to March 2011, the committee has given a permit to a total of 2,674 foreigners to operate their business in Thailand with their total capital worth 1.39 trillion baht. The top three foreign investors are Japan, accounting for 36 per cent of the total capital, followed by Singapore (15 percent), and Germany 9 per cent.
Foreigners are only allowed to engage in types of businesses that allow the transfer of technologies, knowledge and skills to Thai people. (TNA)
