Heavy floods remain in some areas of Thai South
SURAT THANI, April 15 (TNA) - Three villages in Thailand's southern Surat Thani Province have remained under at least one-metre floodwater after nearly three weeks of inundations, forcing local residents to travel by boat and several of them to sleep on the roadways or at temporary relief centres.
Paisan Trithan-ya, a Pun-pin District official, reported on Friday that the floodwater in Surat Thani has become increasingly dirty, filled with sewage, garbage and other refuse, and that several local villagers have become stressed due to the persistent flooding.
Surat Thani is the second most damaged province in the latest spate of floods and mudslides having hit 10 southern Thai provinces since March 23. Other hardest hit flooded provinces in the Thai South include Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phattalung, Krabi and Trang, with rehabilitation projects being implemented in floods-receding areas. (TNA)
