Gaddafi troops shell Misrata port

CAIRO, April 15 (Itar-Tass) -- Troops loyal to Libyan leader Muammar
Gaddafi heavily shelled the port of Misrata on Thursday, rebels said
calling on NATO to intensify air strikes to stop the bombing.
Reuters quoted rebels as saying a hail of rockets fired into a
residential district of Misrata, Libya's third largest city, had killed 23
civilians, mostly women and children.
"Over 200 Grad missiles fell on the port area, including residential
neighborhoods near the port. They shelled this area because the port is
Misrata's only window to the outside world," the news agency quoted a
rebel spokesman as saying by phone.
"The destruction there was huge. I was there and saw for myself," he
said, adding the port had been shut.
