This year's Songkran-shirts sales fall

BANGKOK, April 14 (TNA) - A recent market survey on this year's sales of Songkran-shirts showed both wholesale and retail trade at Bo-be Market in Bangkok had fallen short of expectation, even less than last year.

The survey indicated that the drop in sales of Songkran shirts in Thailand this year should be attributed to several factors, including poor economic conditions among local grass-roots and impacts from natural disasters in the country.

Furthermore, shops had to maintain their wholesale and retail prices although their costs of production, including fabric prices, were rising. Prices of Songkran-shirts this year are varied, ranging from 60 baht each for those of medium-quality to 120 baht for those of good-quality. However, shops normally offer sale promotions in which shoppers can buy three 120-baht shirts for 300 baht or three 70-baht shirts for 200 baht.

Designs of this year’s Songkran-shirts remain similar to previous years, but factories have offered, instead, various colors to attract shoppers.

Meanwhile, an owner of a toys shop at Sampeng Market, another established wholesale market in Bangkok, acknowledged that water gun sales during this year's Songkran Festival were not very good due to downpours. (TNA)
