Investigators ask citizens to give info on suspected killer

MOSCOW, April 14 (Itar-Tass) - Investigators have asked the citizens
who have information on Alexei Korshunov, a 28-year-old Muscovite, to
report his whereabouts to police. Korshunov is suspected of killing judge
Eduard Chuvashov.
"The investigators are asking all those who have any information on
the whereabouts of Korshunov, to call 8-916-209-74-83," the Investigation
Committee (SK) told Itar-Tass.
Earlier, SK spokesman Vladimir Markin told Tass "the SK, in the course
of the investigation into the criminal case over the murder of Eduard
Chuvashov, ascertained the identity of the perpetrator of the murder -
Alexei Korshunov, a 28-year-old Muscovite."
The investigators passed a resolution on arraigning Korshunov as
suspect, accused under Article 295 of Russia's Criminal Code
(assassination of judge in revenge for administering justice when
reviewing criminal cases or passing verdicts on extremist crimes), Markin
said.
"Due to the fact that Korshunov is hiding from preliminary
investigation bodies, a resolution put him on the wanted list, and a court
sanctioned his arrest in absentia," the SK spokesman emphasized.
At present, SK investigators, together with Federal Security Service
agents and police are looking for the suspect, and ascertaining the
identity of other persons that might be involved in masterminding the
murder.
Investigation Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin said there were
good prospects to solve the murder.
The investigators followed up several leads, with the judge's
professional activity being the main one.
Chuvashov, a native of Tula, was appointed federal judge of Moscow's
Gagarinsky court in 2002. In March 2008, he got an appointment at the
Moscow City Court where he reviewed criminal cases under original
jurisdiction.
"He has reviewed a number of high-profile cases since," a Moscow City
Court official said.
The judge was killed in the morning of April 12, 2010 in the stairwell
of his apartment house. He died of gunshot wounds to the chest and head.
