MINISTER OF LABOR MEETS MRS. HEYZER

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Minister of Social Welfare and Labor T.Gandi met Tuesday Mrs. Noeleen Heyzer, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP).
Beginning the meeting, the Minister T.Gandi has expressed thanks to Mrs. Heyzer for paying the official visit to Mongolia and discussing the social welfare issue. T.Gandi has pointed out function of the Ministry is accorded with the frame of the ESCAP in many issues such as employment, labor relations, social insurance, welfare, population's development, gender, development of population's special groups, and protecting their rights.
The Minister also has introduced to Mrs. Heyzer some problems faced to the social welfare sector in Mongolia and measures taken by the government, and then emphasized a requirement to exploit various opportunities of the external relations and cooperation. T.Gandi has expressed a willingness to cooperate with the ESCAP in introducing a management of economic growth focusing on reducing the poverty, strengthening its capability, supporting the rural development, implementing a strategy for life expectancy, testing new services and programs dedicated to seniors, and improving statistics and information on poverty rate, labor, population and social welfare.
In her turn, Mrs. Heyzer has expressed a satisfaction with visiting Mongolia, and then said she hoped the cooperation between Mongolia and the ESCAP will widen.
