Thai PM sees no obstacles to House dissolution

BANGKOK, April 13 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva insisted on Wednesday that he sees no obstacles to his planned House dissolution over the coming months, as the Senate has already approved in principle three organic laws related to the next national poll and the progress of the new legislation has been on schedule.

Abhisit said that his administration will then discuss with the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) suitable practices of his government in the lead-up to the next general election in mid 2011.

The Thai Democrat premier admitted that political problems are normally endless and he is more concerned over people’s economic problems, but he and his government will work at the best and people will have a chance to elect their representatives and the new government.

Abhisit said he hopes that Thai politicians will then propose concrete solutions to people’s economic problems and he wishes the Thai electorate to vote for political parties which can solve public issues, rather than those which only intend to solve their own problems.

Asked by journalists if there was any positive sign for Thai politics, the Thai premier acknowledged that he expected such a sign and would like all parties to cooperate, as Thailand's House of Representatives will be definitely dissolved within early May, paving the way for the next general election. Abhisit projected that voters’ turnout should be some 70 per cent. (TNA)
