STATE HEAD MEETS DR. NOELEEN HEYZER
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President Ts.Elbegdorj received Tuesday Mrs. Noeleen Heyzer, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP).
The President has thanked Mrs. Heyzer for hew special attention to forwarding of the regional collaboration in order to ensure the sustainable development and to supporting the ESCAP members for making right strategic analysis and thoughtful choice on developing socio-economy and protecting environment.
Mentioning about the 50th anniversary of Mongolia's joining the United Nations (UN), Mrs. Heyzer has underlined that a position of Mongolia at the UN is increasing sustainably, stating Mongolia is one of the strong members in the region. She has said the ESCAP is actively cooperating with the government of Mongolia as for a landlocked country.
It is considered that an establishment of the ESCAP branch center in East and Northeast Asian region under a leadership of Mrs. Heyzer created for Mongolia favorable conditions to collaborate with the ESCAP members in enhancing environmental protection, green growth, energy, transportation, and in easing trade, developing infrastructure, information and communications technologies, reducing disasters' consequences, and food safety.
Mrs. Heyzer has pointed out Mongolia is an exemplary country in Asia thanks to its ways of implementing the democracy, and appreciated Mongolia for sharing its experiences with other countries and for ensuring human rights.
After the meeting, the State Head bestowed the North Star Order upon Heyzer as a recognition of her contribution to socio-economic development in Mongolia, and on occasion of the above 50th anniversary.
