Direct investfund must be discussed at BRICS summit--view
SANYA (Hainan Province, PRC), April 13 (Itar-Tass) - Vneshekonombank
(VEB) chief Vladimir Dmitriyev believes that at the upcoming summit of
BRICS it is essential to discuss an item concerning a Direct Investments
Fund (DIF) that is being established in Russia. He said this in an
Itar-Tass interview on the eve of the opening of an annual meeting of the
interbank association of BRICS countries here.
"I think it would be appropriate to raise this theme, for it was first
made public last year by the President of the Russian Federation. This
year he twice returned to the subject, in Davos and at the Moscow
conference where appropriate assignments were made, including those to
VEB," Dmitriyev said.
"We are establishing DIF and this is illustrative of a serious
intention of the Russian leadership together with foreign investors to
share project risks," Dmitriyev pointed out, recalling that DIF will be
formed resultants of additonal budgetary sources.
"We realize that a majority of foreign investors are not prepared to
make inputs into the project proper. However, we suggest such a pattern to
them in which they gain the right to choose project for them to
participate in," Dmitriyev said, adding that talks on the subejct had been
already held with Chinese investors and that they evince high interest in
the possibility together with DIF to take part in implementing projects in
Russia.
