Imposing will of minority on majority is dictatorship: Iran
TEHRAN, April 13 (MNA) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast decribed the imposition of the will of the minority on the majority as dictatorship.
During his weekly press briefing on Tuesday, replying to a question about Iran’s view of the recent wave of protests in Syria, Mehmanparast stated that the United States and its Western allies are seeking to create an artificial movement in Syria.
“We believe that the opinions of the minority must be taken into consideration. But if the views of the minority are imposed on the majority through the exertion of political pressure and media exaggeration, it would not be democracy, but rather the imposition of the will of the minority on the majority is the same as dictatorship,” he said.
The people must not fall for the intrigues devised by the United States, he added.
On the suppression of the Syrian protesters, he stated, “Our stance is that violence must not be used against the people.”
