President-chaired meeting of Government on 2011 first quarter socioeconomic development results held
Baku (Trend) - Under the chairmanship of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday held a meeting devoted to the results of the 2011 first quarter socioeconomic development, state television channel AzTv reported.
The economy of the country develops successfully, the President said. Having noted that a growth has been observed in the non-oil sector, the head of the state said the principal objective was to develop this sector, and reduce the economy's dependence on oil and gas factors. The President said he paid particular attention to this sphere.
Having stated that industrial output has increased by 0.3 percent, President Aliyev pointed out to 9.8 percent growth of the non-oil industries, which is an important factor of industrial development.
President Aliyev assessed this as a result of investments in the non-oil sector, and conditions created for businesses.
He said that oil production has reached a high level; gas production will also increase in the coming years. The head of the state noted that the country's currency reserves have increased up to $34.7 billion and will continue to grow before the end of the year.
President Aliyev said that the entire instructions in the economic sphere have been fulfilled, and the social sphere tasks have been coped with.
President Aliyev reported that the "Socioeconomic development of regions" program is also being implemented successfully.
"We should always develop", President Aliyev said.
He said that a more important project "Baku suburban settlements development program" is under preparation.
Large infrastructure projects were implemented in phase-to-phase manner, gasification, water supply and sanitation issues were settled, and new roads were built in the country in the first quarter, President Aliyev said.
A new building of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport is under construction. In addition, the International marine trade port and a shipyard are also under construction in line with transport sector development program.
Speaking at the meeting, the President also touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
Speakers at the meeting were Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov, Chairman of the State Social Security Fund Salim Muslimov, Chief of the Migration Service Arzu Ragimov, and Chairman of the State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev.
