Media Monitoring System at Public Complaint Centre in offing

Karachi (PPI) - In order to ensure timely action on news items and reports on media, especially pertaining to police accesses and misuse of powers, arrangements are underway to launch a Media Monitoring System at the Public Complaint Centre.

This was observed by Consultant on Planning, Policy, Public Relations and Home Affairs Sharfuddin Memon while talking to a 3-member delegation of Consumer Forum Pakistan led by its chairperson Huma Bukhari.

The consultant home affairs said the very step was being adopted to address grievances of people living in sub-urban areas of the city and remote areas of the province who are unable to approach Public Complaint centre for any reason.

“Media no doubt acts as the eyes and ears of the government” he maintained.

Memon categorically acknowledged that idea of setting up of a Public Complaint Centre was conceived by Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza.

He advised the public to dialup on following telephone numbers of Public Complaint Centre in case of police personnel’s non cooperative attitude, or any other social or human issues. The numbers are 021-99207744-48.

Sharing the performance of the complaint centre, Sharfuddin Memon informed that out of the total 2,486 complaints, received from 24-09-10 to 10-04-2011, 691 were against police only. “The percentage of redressing grievances falls between 45-55 percent and efforts are being made to raise the redressing rate”, he added.

Huma Bukhari also shared the functioning of Consumer Forum Pakistan with special reference to its aims and objectives and ensured its voluntary support
