Thai Commerce Ministry protects consumers from unfair price increases

BANGKOK, April 12 (TNA) - Thai Commerce Minister Pornthiva Nakasai says merchants have not set unfair prices during the holiday period, citing a recent investigation by the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) at the Moh Chit bus terminal.
The Commerce Minister has set up sixteen additional groups of patrol officers from the DIT provincial offices to inspect tourist attractions as well as bus and train stations nationwide, including in the southern regions affected by floods.
During the holiday period, merchants are required to clearly display the price of all goods and services, such as the price of bus and train tickets, and for food and drinks. Consumer exploitation is punishable by up to 7 years imprisonment and up to 140,000 baht fine.
Meanwhile, the public may report any incident of consumer exploitation to the DIT hotline at 1569. (TNA)
