Lost super climbs to $5.4bn in 2010
SYDNEY (AAP) - 14.04.2011 - About $5.4 billion of unclaimed superannuation was sitting in about six million small and lost super accounts last year, research suggests.
The 6.1 million accounts, as of June 30, 2010, represents more than 15 per cent of all super accounts.
About 106,000 more accounts were created in 2009/10 and transferred to the Eligible Rollover Fund (ERF) sector and around 1.5 million accounts were passed to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), superannuation researcher SuperRatings on Tuesday said.
The ATO has effectively become the second largest ERF by member numbers after the lost accounts were passed to it last October.
It now holds a quarter of all lost super accounts, SuperRatings said in a statement.
