Thailand’s Royal Aid on the way to Japan

BANGKOK, April 12 (TNA) - Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak of Thailand has contributed financial support to aid Japanese people in their post-disaster period.

Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, presided over a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday morning, at which a 4.64 million baht grant was presented by a royal aide on behalf of the Princess.

Attending the ceremony was Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Seiji Kojima, who observed the handover, including 500,000 bottles of clean water (600ml each), 1,100 plastic wares, 2,000 flashlights, and 4,400 plastic bottles.

According to the report, Kasit said another Royal Thai Air Force C-130 plane will soon be dispatched delivering more aid to Japan, which is currently phased in for rehabilitation since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. On this matter, he added, the Ministry has discussed with Thai construction firms on possible infrastructure support for its neighbor.

Meanwhile, Kasit acknowledged reports regarding a series of aftershocks hitting Japan since Monday, and insists monitoring the situation - with radiation assessments of foods, the air and water - will ensure public safety. (TNA)
