Pakistan, Malaysia trade increasing since signing Free Trade Agreement
Kuala Lumpur (PPI) - Trade between Pakistan and Malaysia has increased since the signing of free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries, said Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia, Masood Khalid.
Bilateral trade rose by 34 per cent to US$2.5 billion last year from US$1.86 billion previously, he was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency on Monday.
Masood said, however, the balance of trade was heavily tilted in favour of Malaysia. "This needs to be narrowed by including non-traditional items in the bilateral trade," he said in a statement here today.
He said High Commission here was pursuing a number of steps to increase exports from Pakistan to Malaysia. "Malaysian side should send a trade delegation to Pakistan to identify specific products for import." He said Pakistan-Malaysia Joint Business Council had also been launched to promote interaction between private sectors of two countries.
