Security measures well in place for travellers at Suvarnabhumi Airport during Songkran Festival

BANGKOK, April 11 (TNA) - Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi Airport has fully prepared measures to facilitate and to ensure safety of throngs of travellers during transnational celebrations of the annual Songkran Festival this week.
Thai Transport Minister Sopon Zarum presided over a ceremony at the Suvarnabhumi Airport Monday morning to release lines of more than 200 personnel in charges of providing both security and facilitation at the airport during this year's Songkran festivity, including police, airport staff, immigration officials and even duty free shops' workers.
Suvarnabhumi Airport Director Anirut Thanombutr said that the ceremony was aimed to build up confidence among international Songkran celebrants in Thailand's aviation safety and services, and that a 24-hour integrated security and aviation services management centre has also been set up on the first floor of the Suvarnabhumi Airport's passenger terminal building--at which all the personnel concerned can coordinate each other.
According to the Suvarnabhumi Airport director, security officers are also providing more frequent patrols both inside and outside the airport's passenger terminal building during this week's Songkran travelling; while check-in counters of all airlines are urged to open early to timely cater the crowds of passengers and to ease congestion.
The Suvarnabhumi Airport chief suggested that international travellers check-in early as well and seek advice from "airport ambassadors" available at all passenger terminals whenever they need. (TNA)
