BANGKOK, April 11 (TNA) - A methamphetamine package worth up to 20 million baht has been seized at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Thailand’s main air terminal, police said on Monday.
According to the authorities, the drugs were being transported to Malaysia from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but they did not give details of the specific flight.
The alleged smuggler was confirmed as a 27-year-old Iranian, named Mehdi Nikzad.
Reportedly, the illicit goods were detected during a joint raid by narcotics police and the Immigration Department, with inspections turning up 13 bales of methamphetamine weighing a total of 6.8 kilograms, hidden in a spray bottle, a laptop, and a separate electronic device, and 500 U.S. dollars found.
Police said the suspect has so far been charged for illegal possession of drugs within the Kingdom.
Meanwhile, authorities revealed numerous operations are underway against drug groups originating from Iran, Nigeria and Pakistan, following reports from third countries citing Thailand as a transit post for smuggling activities in Asia. (TNA)
