Flood victims in parts of Thai South still waiting for help

TRANG, April 11 (TNA) - Although floods have eased in several southern provinces of Thailand, people in some areas are still in trouble and waiting for much needed help.
In Trang, flood situations in ten districts have improved but parts of the province’s Muang and Kantang districts are still about 50 centimeters under water. Floodwaters there are reportedly becoming polluted and having unpleasant smell. Many local people are also suffering from skin infection and some are forced to take shelter elsewhere. Those aiming to wade through the floodwater have to wear boots to protect themselves.
According to the report, flooding in the two districts has already left three people dead and over 5,000 others affected.
In Surat Thani, flooding has heavily damaged roads in many areas, leaving over 200 families isolated.
Meanwhile, soldiers from the 2nd Army Area Command, based in Nakhon Ratchasima, have been deployed to repair Ban Klong Sa-Ban Huay Hoy road in Kanchanadit district, with nearly 1 kilometre of road surface so far restored, leaving another four to go. They expect to get the road ready for travel within 5 days. (TNA)
