Thai Foreign Affairs Minister attends informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting

BANGKOK, April 11 (TNA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, in his capacity as ASEAN chairman, the Thai Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya, 8 other Foreign Ministers of ASEAN countries, and ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan attended an informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Monday held at Shagri-la Hotel, Bangkok.
The Meeting provided a platform for ASEAN foreign ministers to discuss issues concerning the ASEAN Summit. Topics included the summit's future direction following gradual expansion of its membership, potential steps to maintain the role of the organization regionally while further enhancing its role and status on the global stage in order to maximize benefits.
During the meeting, ASEAN foreign ministers exchanged views on regional and international issues including the preparation for the 18th ASEAN Summit, which is scheduled to be held on the 7th and 8th of April in Jakarta, as well as preparations for the 19th ASEAN Summit. (TNA)
