Humankind to keep Gagarin's name in memory forever - Remek
PRAGUE, April 11 (Itar-Tass) -- The 50th anniversary of the first
piloted spaceflight is a global event and Yuri Gagarin's name "will stay in the memory of humankind forever," the first cosmonaut from
Czechoslovakia Vladimir Remek told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
"With the centuries to pass the names of prominent politicians,
military commanders and cultural personalities will be forgotten and many countries will fall into oblivion, but I can state with confidence that the name of Yuri Gagarin will live until the human civilization exists, as he latter opened the doors into the space for it," he noted. "Yuri Gagarin was a great son of Russia, which became a cradle and a real creator of the cosmonautics. The scientists from this country fulfilled the first manned spaceflight project that looked fantastic," Remek pointed out.
Prague and Bratislava remember that thanks to the support from Moscow Czechoslovakia became the third country after the Soviet Union and the United States that made the piloted spaceflight. In 1978 Vladimir Remek went on a space mission as a space pilot onboard the Soyuz-28 spaceship under the command of Alexei Gubarev. This was the first joint spaceflight of the citizens from various countries.
Vladimir Remek is an incumbent deputy of the European Parliament. He believes that he should focus his astronautics popularization activities on the creation of a permanent exposition dedicated to the space exploration with Yuri Gagarin to take an honorable place in it at a Czech museum.
