Transport minister, Russian ambassador discuss relations

Baghdad (NINA) – Transport minister Hadi Al Ameri discussed with the Russian ambassador to Iraq, Valerian Shovaiev, bilateral economic ties and the Russian companies’ investment in Iraq, a statement issued by the ministry mentioned Sunday.

The statement quoted Ameri as saying “we discussed Russian investments in marine and land transport, especially railway sector which we believe will be important in linking East Asia with Europe through laying the railway from Iraqi ports to Europe via Turkey.”

For his part, the Russian ambassador expressed the Russian firms’ willingness to rehabilitate the rail cars in Iraq.
