Karelia Governor suggests changing law on fishery, aqua culture

PETROZAVODSK, April 10 (Itar-Tass) -- Karelia's Head Andrei Nelidov
suggests making changes to laws on fishery to let regional authorities to develop more effectively the sector.
"We would like to have some addendums, where regional authorities have
more rights in organization and regulation of aqua culture development in
local specifics," he said. "We should also have a legal base for
obligatory research of the influence fish industry makes on the
environment."
Karelia's Ministry of Economic Development forecasts that in 2012 the
republic's fish industry will increase production by 30 percent against
2010, where Karelia's companies produced over 12,000 tonnes of trout and
salmon. They also plan to introduce by 15-20 percent more jobs and to
raise wages by 30 percent.
In mid-March, Andrei Nelidov and the Group of companies Russian Sea's
COB Maxim Vorobyov signed an agreement on cooperation, under which the
company over 2011-2015 will invest up to five billion roubles in
development of aqua culture in Karelia.
