Thai military supports general election, says Air Force Chief

BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) - Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force Air Chief Marshal Ittiporn Supawong insisted on Saturday that the Thai military has remained firm on being neutral and supporting the country's upcoming general election.

When reiterating the Thai military's support for national democracy, Air Chief Marshal Ittiporn said that all political parties are equally welcome to make unreserved visits to military compounds across the country during their electoral campaigns; while Thai troops are also encouraged to cast their ballots.

The air force commander-in-chief said he believes the new general election will take place, as domestic political problems have eased, despite demonstrations being held by different groups, noting that the country will proceed well if the Thai society brushes aside rumors.

Meanwhile, the Thai Air Force Chief dismissed concerns over a new rally of the red-clad National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) on Sunday, saying authorities will be able to control the situation. (TNA)
