First-day JBC meeting makes satisfactory progress
BANGKOK, April 8 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday that the first-day Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting in Bogor city, Indonesia, on April 7 made good progress.
The ministry's Department of Information reported that the ongoing bilateral meeting had resolved to deploy both Thai and Cambodian officials to survey an unsettled area between the 1st and the 23rd demarcation posts and discussed qualifications of a company to be authorised to take aerial photos.
The department also said that the first-day JBC meeting made progress in several other areas, as Thailand informed Cambodia of the Thai Parliament's procedures, including those for a pending approval of the JBC's past three documents; so, Thai and Cambodian representatives agreed to take quick action after the proceedings are approved by the Thai Parliament.
Both sides proceeded with the second-day JBC meeting on Friday morning--at which many other issues were put on the agenda, including the planned opening of new border passes. The ongoing JBC meeting, facilitated by Indonesia, is taking place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, showing that Thailand and Cambodia are determined to cooperate and solve their unsettled issues peacefully through their existing bilateral mechanisms.
