Flood deaths in Thai South reach 58
BANGKOK, April 8 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Interior’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said in its updated report Friday morning that the confirmed death toll from widespread floods in southern Thailand has now surged to 58, as the United States has sent a message of condolence and sympathy to local flood victims.
According to the official report, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province had the highest flood fatalities at 25, followed by 12 in Surat Thani, 10 in Krabi, 5 in Phatthalung, 3 in Chumphon, 2 in Trang and one in Phang-nga.
Meanwhile, the United States has offered assistance to Thailand, along with a message of condolences and sympathy it has conveyed to people affected by the heavy inundations in southern Thailand.
In the message, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that, on behalf of President Barack Obama and the people of the United States, she would like to send sincere condolences and sympathy to the people of Thailand for the loss of life and damage caused by the flooding in southern Thailand.
