Japanese death toll close to 12.7 thousand people

TOKYO, April 8 (Itar-Tass) -- The death toll of the devastating
earthquake and tsunami in Japan last month came close to 12.7 thousand
people. Close to 15 thousand remain missing, police said on Friday.
The calamities ruined over 150 thousand buildings leaving at least 25
million tons of debris. Close to 163 thousand people from Japan's
northeast remain in temporary accommodations. There are still no
electricity supplies to 164 thousand houses and no water supplies to 170
thousand houses in affected areas.
The damage is estimated at 308 billion US dollars and another 133
billion dollars may be the damage triggered by the accident at Fukushima
Daiichi nuclear power plant.
