Al-Ban meets British ambassador
SANA'A, Aug 28 (Saba) - Minister of Human Rights Huda al-Ban met
Thursday here with the British ambassador to Yemen Tim Torlow.
The meeting reviewed aspects of cooperation between the countries as
well as the Human Rights ministry efforts to spread and promote
concepts of international human rights accords particularly those on
tackling poverty and illiteracy.
Al-Ban said poverty and illiteracy are main reasons for terrorism in
the country, affirming knowledge is best way to counter all forms
of terror.
Al-Ban and Torlow also discussed the possibility of presenting the
concepts of human rights in school textbooks and propagate the
culture of human rights among students.
Al-Ban assessed field visits she had paid to jails with support from
president Ali Abdullah Saleh and that aimed at familiarizing with
the conditions of prisoners.
At the meeting, she urged Britain to provide support that will help
Yemen to qualify judges and judicial officials.
For his part, Torlow said that his government will support Yemen
women since they are a vital partner in the processes of democracy
and development.
He stressed the importance of promoting cooperation between the
British embassy and the ministry of Human Rights in Yemen to achieve
this goal.
