Azerbaijani President and Heydar Aliyev Foundation President attend opening ceremony of World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony, Azerbaijani President’s official website reported.
The forum under the motto "United through common values, enriched by cultural diversity" will bring together ministers of culture from 20 states, deputy ministers, representatives of the leading international organizations, director general of ISESCO, deputy director general of UNESCO, Chairman of the PACE, parliamentarians and diplomats, mayors, eminent figures of culture and scientists.
The World forum, which is supported by UNESCO, UN Alliance of Civilizations, Council of Europe, North-South Center of the Council of Europe, ISESCO and the Euronews, and held for the first time in such a format in the world, marks a recognition that intercultural dialogue is one of the most pressing challenges of the world and, indeed, one that increasingly manifests itself on a global scale. It will provide an opportunity for the sharing of good practice and the launch of new initiatives.
A new project "5A Intercultural Cooperation Platform" which includes the first letter "A" in Azerbaijani languages of the continents Europe, Asia, America, Africa, Australia will be presented at the forum, which will discuss many issues.
President Ilham Aliyev made a speech at the opening ceremony.
After the speeches of PACE Chairman Mevlut Cavusoglu, ISESCO director general Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, UNESCO assistant director general for strategic planning Hans D`Ovril, Executive director of the secretariat of UN Alliance of Civilizations Marc Scheuer, Chief of Crans Montana Forum Mr. Jean-Paul Carteron, UN Secretary-General’s former Special Representative from Portugal Victor Angelo delivered a report.
The World forum, official media partner of which is the "Euronews" channel, is being held upon President Ilham Aliyev’s initiative.
President Ilham Aliyev officially declared on conducting of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku on April 2011 during the 65th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, on Sep. 23, 2010.
The sessions, international conferences, seminars and cultural events will be held within the three-day forum.
